Top 10 Casino Heists in History

Casino Heists

Hey there, fellow gamblers! Are you in for some drama today? If you’re a fan of adrenaline-boosting adventures, I have just the right treat for you! Nothing beats the excitement of a good casino heist story, and my selection of the best casino heists in history is no less thrilling than the stunning Hollywood movies that keep you on the edge of your seat, yet this time – for real!

As a former croupier, I’ve had my share of excitement, but nothing sounds as interesting as these stories.

Today, I take you on a journey through history with the most daring and unforgettable casino heists the gambling industry has ever known.

Let’s get it started!

Stardust Heist: The Mysterious Theft

This mysterious disappearing act happened in 1992 when Bill Brennan, a cashier at the Stardust Casino in the capital of gambling (that’s right, Las Vegas), simply walked out one day with a stunning sum of $500,000 cash and casino chips all stuffed in a suitcase.

How daring is that? That’s not all. The most exciting part is that neither he nor the stolen money has been seen since then. As gamblers call it – it is the most mysterious casino heist in Las Vegas.

Crown Heist: The Inside Man

This time, we go to Australia, where a group of high rollers planned a pretty sophisticated heist at the Crown Casino in Melbourne. So, in 2013, the thieves used an inside man to hack the casino’s surveillance system and predict the winning outcome.

Do you know what this story ended with? They walked away with $32 million. Is that possible? Well, it is.

Unfortunately for them, the casino uncovered the plot just in time. At least, part of the money was recovered.

Bellagio Heist: The Bellagio Bandit

Anthony Carleo Bellagio Heist

Hollywood in real life, or shall I call it the man who felt lucky?

The story goes as it follows: Anthony Carleo, or the Bellagio Bandit, rode into the Bellagio Casino on a motorcycle, armed with a handgun. This all happened in 2010. He stole $1.5 million worth of chips and walked away.

Was he lucky, though? The victory was short-lived and all because of his own mistake.

Do you know what he did shortly after? He tried to sell the casino chips online. Of course, he was eventually captured and arrested.

Ritz Heist: Technically, Not Illegal

This is the story of three con artists who predicted the roulette wheel’s spin at one of the casinos in London. Do you wonder how they did that? All they used was mobile phones and laser scanners. The masterminds ended up with a thrilling amount of £1.3 million.

Unlike the previous story, these thieves didn’t get into jail because their clever methods weren’t technically illegal in 2004.

Circus Circus Heist: A Love Story

Heather Tallchief and Roberto Solis

It all began with a love story between Heather Tallchief and Roberto Solis way back in 1993. One day, Heather, disguised as a security guard, carried out a daring truck heist in Las Vegas at the renowned Circus Circus Casino.

As it appears, the pair lived a luxurious life on the run, right like in the movies, until Heather simply turned herself in after 12 years. What about her partner? Solis is still on the run!

Treasure Island Heist: The End of the Criminal Career

When Reginal Johnson, a repeat offender, tried to steal money from the Treasure Island Casino, again in Las Vegas, little did he know that he wouldn’t get far. He was captured in the casino parking lot.

This all happened in 2000. His attempt to steal $30,000 in chips failed, marking his last hurrah.

Soboba Heist: Family Bond

This story is about a family feud. It takes us all the way back to 2007 when Emil D. Molians planned a Soboba Casino heist in California together with his sons.

Following the plot twist from the popular series Money Heist, the trio sneaked into the casino’s vault and managed to steal $1.5 million. The family bond didn’t last long, as they were eventually captured.

Stardust Skimming: Mobsters in Action

Back in the ‘70 and ‘80s, the gambling industry wasn’t as regulated as it is now. Stardust Casino was another prey of the mobsters who collaborated with – guess who – the casino executives and set up a massive skimming operation.

They planned to steal millions of dollars before the casino would report the revenue to authorities. That’s when the guys from the FBI entered the scene and arrested everybody.

Mandalay Bay Heist: Amateur Theft

Another heist story, another casino in Las Vegas. Long story short, two men wanted to steal money from a high-stakes poker game in 2005 armed with nothing else but pepper spray.

Were they lucky or not? Of course, they were overpowered by security and guests, and their amateur plan to steal money transformed into jail time. The question is: Was it worth their freedom?

Bellagio Cage Heist: the Worker’s Gambit

Many casino heist stories have an inside man. This story has one, too.

Joseph Stuart, a slot machine worker, attempted to steal from the Bellagio cage. It all happened in 1993 when the casino worker used his inside knowledge to steal over $200,000.

I’ll tell you more; he managed to get away and even tried to flee the country. Unluckily for him, he was caught and sentenced to a lengthy prison term. Not all real heist stories end up like in movies.

These intriguing stories prove that glamorous gambling houses can be the scene of the boldest heists in the story of casinos. From inside men to brilliant schemes, these tales are about ingenuity, greed, and even luck. After all, Hollywood movies about heists are also inspired by real stories.

Play smart and stay safe, fellow gamblers! You never know what might be around the corner. It can be luck. And don’t forget to take these casino heist stories only as a way to “how not to”; don’t do this in real life!
